Scientific, training and coordination activities in which SHARE Italy takes part, together with events promoted by the SHARE-ERIC European network.
This section presents SHARE Italy’s main scientific, training and coordination activities, along with selected events organised by the SHARE-ERIC European network. International meetings are where the questionnaire is developed, surveys are coordinated, methods and results are shared, and national teams are trained.
Research grows through collaboration, training and international scientific exchange.
The VIU Summer Institute on Ageing takes place at Venice International University, on the island of San Servolo in Venice, and offers multidisciplinary training on ageing processes and on the use of longitudinal surveys, including SHARE. The initiative is scientifically coordinated by Agar Brugiavini and involves Italian and international university and research partners.

The SHARE User Conferences bring together data users from different disciplines and countries and encourage discussion of research results and of the possibilities offered by the infrastructure.

Collecting comparable data in many countries requires continuous coordination between SHARE-ERIC, the Country Teams and the partners responsible for scientific, methodological and operational aspects. SHARE Italy regularly takes part in international meetings that review survey progress, questionnaire development, translation and training procedures, data quality and the preparation of upcoming waves.

SHARE Vilnius Conference 2026: meeting of the Country Team Operators (2 December) and SHARE conference (3–4 December).
The meeting was devoted to evaluating Wave 10 activities and preparing Wave 11 of the survey.
Meeting of the Country Teams and the coordinating bodies of SHARE-ERIC devoted to the infrastructure’s scientific and organisational activities.
The meeting covered the progress of Wave 10, the preparation of Wave 11, the SoGreen project and discussion among Country Teams on the future content and format of the survey.
Meeting devoted to the progress of data collection, security and compliance, future developments of SHARE, HCAP and scientific exchange among participating countries. SHARE Italy also contributed to the discussion on research perspectives on healthy ageing.
Coordination meeting following the Wave 10 field rehearsal, devoted to evaluating procedures and preparing the main survey.
Meeting devoted to evaluating the pretest, preparing the field rehearsal and the future development of the infrastructure, with dedicated sessions for Country Team Operators.
Discussion of pretest results, scientific content and methodological and technological developments of the survey, including the preparation of subsequent waves.
The Train-the-Trainers (TTT) courses organised by SHARE-ERIC prepare national teams for the different phases of the survey. The sessions include in-depth work on the questionnaire, interview procedures, IT tools, data protection and fieldwork management. The knowledge acquired is then passed on to interviewers through the National Training Sessions organised in each country.

After the Train-the-Trainers, SHARE Italy organises the National Training Sessions devoted to training the interviewers who carry out data collection across Italy. The sessions follow the programme defined by SHARE-ERIC and adapt it to the Italian context, with exercises on the questionnaire, operating procedures and handling situations that may arise during the interview.
Over the different waves, national training sessions have been held in several Italian cities, including Milan, Rome, Bologna, Padova, Lamezia Terme and Catania.
